The conference was very informative to me. I learned a lot, and the sessions made a lot of sense to me as I got to hear testimonies from persons who have experienced the challenges of managing children with autism. As a Social Welfare Officer, I gained many lessons on how to assist parents and children who come to my attention. Most importantly, I got a valuable network which I can use for referral and linking my clients, and I will be learning more from them. Generally, I really appreciate this opportunity, and I’m grateful to the sponsors!
Salome Lukondo
Attendee
The autism conference was a valuable opportunity to learn about the latest research, practices, and challenges in the field of autism. I enjoyed listening to the keynote speakers, who shared their insights and experiences from different perspectives. I also appreciated the interactive sessions, where I could ask questions and exchange ideas with other attendees. One of the topics that resonated with me was how to support autistic people in inclusive education, fair treatment, acceptance in the real world, dealing with parents and child strategies, and using manipulative for teaching them. I learned that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to these issues but rather a need for individualized and evidence-based interventions that respect the strengths and needs of each autistic person. I also learned that autistic people can thrive in business, have a unique perspective on life, and contribute to society in meaningful ways. The conference inspired me to continue my learning journey and apply what I learned to my own practice.
Tahera Alibhai

I have learned that Autism kids can do a lot of things; what they need is love, trust, and a space or room to show their talents. To have an Autistic child doesn't mean you're cursed; instead, you're a blessed parent and trustworthy person. We have to show and give knowledge to the world that kids with special needs are talented and supposed to be loved and trusted like other kids.
Janeth Ezrom Matowo
Attendee
The conference was a much-needed event in Tanzania, where not only Autism Awareness and Identification are still at its infancy, let alone intervention mechanisms and treatments available out there. The conference has enriched the parents' and professionals' knowledge on the therapies and possible upcoming treatment available across the globe, on one hand, while showing the Tanzanian government the gravity of ASD condition in the Country and the world. This will help push a number of agendas surrounding ASD and neurodevelopmental Disorders in the Country. An opportunity for Africa to unite and come together to tackle these issues, in not only finding solutions in improving symptoms of Autism and finding the cure for it but also doing research on the cause of Autism across the globe. The conference has shown the changes start with us parents and professionals.

Hello friends, it was a wonderful experience for me to be in this meeting. Being the first time for me to attend, truly I was so much impacted with the information and knowledge shared with every presenter I happened to listen. The moving stories from some of the parents who shared their hearts with us and the courage they diffuse to whosoever listened, it is unforgettable. The guy from the USA who has lived with Autism yet has displayed virtuous victories in different endeavors of life, it's something so powerful worthy of praise. I believe not other than God Almighty who turned his odd condition into plus, his weakness into strength. Too, Dr. Sylvia from Kenya who has two boys with Autism and how she has endured the test, she also emulates the grace God has provided to conquer such an odd. I believe everyone will learn, especially parents with children with Autism as well the community at large, that God is not to blame for such a situation but He is there near and close to turn the situation into glory and praise to His name. I am very grateful.

"The conference was awesome and very well organized. The topics presented were very exciting and informative. My very humble request: Almost all the presentations gave in-depth suggestions, strategies, methodologies, and approaches on how to tackle neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly autism. I suggest creating a task force team to analyze, synthesize, and arrange all the information into one extensive book called 'Manual.' I know it is expensive but extremely important."

It is indeed a joy and peace for me to participate in this meeting because this meeting is the first time for me. I also believe that here in my country, Tanzania, it is the first meeting to be held because it has never been held before. So in my opinion, I would prefer to be in meetings like this from time to time, but also please pray for the organizing committee to be able to put in place effective strategic plans that the NGO people will do. Thank you for inviting us to attend a big meeting like this. I have found comfort especially for the children; we are struggling to help our children but here in Tanzania, good teachers to teach these children are missing. For my part, I wish to teach these children with autism, but I have studied Bachelor of psychology in education, which covers very little issue about autism, so it becomes a challenge. Therefore, if there is an online platform to teach how to teach these children or a college so that we can learn more about autism. Thank you very much.

The conference was very much organized and orchestrated, a lot of people attended. Presentations were very well prepared and discussions were filled with relevant topics and excellence. Questions were effectively answered by both presenters and conference organizers. Some challenges also were observed, such as a language barrier in which many people who attended, especially Tanzanians, expressed that they are not aware of the English language effectively, so translators were supposed to be in all conference halls. Also, signal language translators for the people with hearing impairment were also supposed to be there in the halls.

The conference was so helpful and educative. I gained knowledge and understanding from various speakers. But as advice, for the benefit of parents with children with autism, some of the presentations should be translated into the language of the specific setting, for example, in Tanzania, some presentations should be in Swahili, so that they can also gain knowledge and get answers to questions they have. Thank you. 😊

It was well organized. However, as a parent, I wanted to hear more practical solutions for my child. I was expecting to come out feeling there was hope that my child would get better. I didn't feel much of that. It felt like I should accept that my child would remain in the place he is in. There may be some minor improvements, but I should not expect much. I wanted to hear more about behavior therapies and maybe hear about other children who made significant improvements.

"It was wonderful attending this year's conference. I learned lots of lessons from the speakers. I had an opportunity to meet friends, whom I could just chat with virtually and those whom I know in person. Thanks to you all for the effort you put in for the success of the gathering. As a proprietor of Foundation for Children Living with Autism FCLA here in Zambia, we as an organization would like to lobby for such a gathering to be held in our country, in order to give a chance to most of our parents with children on the spectrum to learn valuable lessons, like we did. This also shall help our government to make appropriate policies for our children. As an organization, we are ready to work with the organizers to bring this important worldwide community to our country so that, together, we share the new techniques and approaches to help our autistic children, with their parents, especially the mothers and primary caregivers. May I applaud you all once again for the colorful event."
